Affordable Housing on Manhattan’s Lower East Side
Recently completed, 351 East 10th Street and 645 East 9th Street are two residential infill buildings intended to interchangeably mix market rate (70%) and affordable (30%) dwelling units. In the interest of dignity-for-all, there is absolutely no distinction between the two: same size rooms, same kitchen appliances, same level of fit and finish.
Each building has been designed to be contextual in terms of building materials and composition, and overall building bulk and height; they are each intended to be good neighbors.
Environmentally, these all-electric buildings approach Passive House energy standards. Every material and product incorporated into these buildings is intended to exceed NYS energy codes, reduce the cost of maintenance and operations, and provide tenants with a healthy and safe living space.
