Port Authority of New York & New Jersey – Term Contract

PANYNJ

Multiple Locations in NY & NJ

Goshow Architects (GA) was retained by the Port Authority to perform various design services under two long-term contracts. Several of our assignments are described below:

Pier 34, Hudson River, NY

The Holland Tunnel has, as part of it’s original construction, a large ventilation structure sitting in the Hudson River 900 feet from shore. This structure also is an escape from tunnel mishap via a stair up to a platform that surrounds the structure. To connect this escape back to shore GA was asked to design two parallel piers, which also served as part of a long-range plan to provide more public park and recreational space for city residents along the Hudson River.

Holland Tunnel Upgrades, New York, NY

Miscellaneous repairs and critical upgrades were completed by us, some of which required coordination with the New York State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) for Airport Security at John F. Kennedy (JFK), La Guardia (LGA), and Newark Liberty (EWR) Airports

Concerned about security at the three huge New York international airports managed by the Port Authority, they contracted with Raytheon, developers of a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) to be installed at each. GA served on Raytheon’s team, designing command and control stations at each airport for this very complicated security system.

Airtrain Upgrades at Newark Airport

GA was asked to make upgrades, including accessibility upgrades, to the several entrance stations and platforms for the Airtrain that connects Newark Airport to the NJ Transit trains that lead to NYC and elsewhere.
