The Towers
City College of New York
New York, NY
2006
This near 600-bed residence hall at City College of New York (CCNY) is the first in its 165-year history and allows CCNY to attract students from outside its traditional commuter base. The 12-story, 175,000 sq.ft. building houses students in one-, two- and four-bedroom suite style apartments. Called “The Towers,” the project was designed and constructed on a highly-accelerated 22-month schedule to ensure completion by the fall semester of 2006.
The unique gated college housing community, located in New York’s Upper West Side, is shared by undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and the administration of City College. With easy access to classes, study groups, the library, and campus activities, living on-campus at The Towers helps students make the most of their college experience.
Sustainable design elements include use of durable materials and efficient fixtures, insulated cavity wall construction, high-efficiency condensing boilers, and Energy-star rated lighting and appliances.
